An offer from a gentleman1/27/2024 ![]() Sophie wants to do something for herself before accepting her new torturous life, so she attends a masquerade ball and meets the asshole. Her stepmother is worse than Cindy's stepmom (she's something between the Evil Queen and Kris Jenner). She is placed in the custody of her father's new wife before her dear father passes away. When I started reading the beginning, I thought this book would be a retelling of Cinderella, and I was totally fine with that if Benedict (everything revolves around him) could be a great Prince Charming instead of an efficient, meticulous asshole! Sophie Beckett is a poor, unlucky girl and the illegitimate child of an earl. Nope, this Benedict is not the same as the one we deserved to read about! After seeing the changes made in the books, I think I'll skip them and go straight to watching the series (even though the second season wasn't steamy enough to satisfy viewers' desires). Where the hell is that artsy, coy, carefree, vulnerable, bisexual Benedict that we saw on the streaming series? In this book, he is portrayed as a manipulative, controlling jerk (you know the original word). Oh, hell no! This is not the love story I had hoped for! Mansplaining, gaslighting, an extremely flawed and naive hero, and a kind but tormented heroine who still believes in him! I'm still angry about this book, even after I finished it. The only person who I liked was Benedict's mom, who at least finds some courage to do something and think outside the box. He sexually harasses her, ignores her pleas to be left alone, and then is acts like a spoiled baby when he finds out her true identity. Well, that makes a VIRGIN feel safe and loved. He tells her that if she doesn't tell him to stop WELL before they have sex, he won't be able to stop. He blackmails her to either become his mistress or move into his family's house as a servant because he won't even entertain the idea of marrying someone as lowly as her, and then has the audacity to be insulted when she isn't genuflecting in gratitude. ![]() hard.īenedict treats Sophie like utter trash. However, as I moved further and further along in the story, I realized that I wanted to punch Benedict in the face. I mean, I adore Rosalyn Landor, who is a narrating queen, and I like Julia Quinn, who is very consistent for me. ![]() I'll be the first to admit that I was really, really enjoying this story at the start. I have one thing to say: SCREW YOU, BENEDICT BRIDGERTON! Yet, if he offers his heart, will Benedict sacrifice his only chance for a fairy tale love?Īlternate cover for ISBN 0380815583 / 9780380815586 He has sworn to find and wed his mystery miss, but this breathtaking maid makes him weak with wanting her. Who was that extraordinary woman? Ever since that magical night, a radiant vision in silver has blinded Benedict to the attractions of any other-except, perhaps this alluring and oddly familiar beauty dressed in housemaid's garb whom he feels compelled to rescue from a most disagreeable situation. Alas, she knows all enchantments must end when the clock strikes midnight. But now, spinning in the strong arms of the debonair and devastatingly handsome Benedict Bridgerton, she feels like royalty. Sophie Beckett never dreamed she'd be able to sneak into Lady Bridgerton's famed masquerade ball-or that "Prince Charming" would be waiting there for her! Though the daughter of an earl, Sophie has been relegated to the role of servant by her disdainful stepmother. Will she accept his offer before the clock strikes midnight?
